Chris Smalling believes that manager Louis van Gaal is unlikely to change

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling believes that manager Louis van Gaal is unlikely to change his coaching methods due to a poor run of form. United are without a win in the last eight matches. This has forced to speculation that the manager might be sacked even before the end of the season. Van Gaal has a contract with United until the end of the 2017 season. The Dutchman only has a top four finish to show for his spending at the club. This coupled with the poor style of football has led to a lot of unhappiness at the club.

Despite the perceived unhappiness, Van Gaal is not the kind of person to suddenly disbelieve his coaching style. This is due to the impressive CV that he has from his time at clubs like Barcelona and Bayern Munich. The Dutchman has won numerous trophies in his coaching career, while also being responsible for bringing up top stars like Andres Iniesta and Bastian Schweinsteiger through the ranks. Smalling has been one such young player to benefit immensely from the presence of van Gaal. He has gone from being a player with potential to becoming a central figure in the England defence.

United are at home to Swansea in the next league encounter.“No, he has been himself from day one that we met him to how he is now.He is not going to change and that is why he has had a a lot of success throughout the years. I can’t ever see him changing because he’s got a track record.I think obviously after the game it was difficult for much to be said and then yesterday was literally a case of turning our attentions straight to Chelsea. I think we were quite lucky we had another game straight after and that we could put it right,” said Smalling.
