BABEL CALLS ON TEAM-MATES

The former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel has said that he feels that the team should be giving all their quality and performance when they take on Manchester city if they are to get anything from this match and progress to the next round of the Champions League. Ajax will be taking on Manchester city at home knowing that they certainly need to win this match in order to have any chance of progression to the next round after having especially lost heavily to Real Madrid in the earlier group matches. The former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel was signed by the club in the summer on a free transfer.

He is hoping to make a big impression in this match and has called for total commitment from the other players in order to get a result against Manchester city. Ajax are yet to win a point in the group matches this season, while they can overtake Manchester city with a victory tonight. The Premier league champions have made an indifferent start to the new season by conceding a lot of goals. Their weaknesses have been exposed a lot in the matches against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. Babel is hoping to take advantage of the same when the two sides met each other.

“We have to play like men against City. The last match, against Heracles, we gave it away and that shouldn’t happen anymore. City is an opponent who benefits when we lose the ball, so we have to play really direct. If we stand still, it will be easy for them to defend us and that’s of course the last thing we want to do. Since my time they have made big steps forward and bought some very good players, they made good progress the last few years,” said Babel.
