Jurgen Klopp backs Loris Karius to become a hit with Besiktas

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has backed Loris Karius to become a good hit with Besiktas after joining them on a two-year loan deal. The Germany international had become the club’s back-up goalkeeper shortly after Alisson Becker’s arrival during the summer and he has now been allowed to head to Istanbul to better his chances of regular gametime.

Speaking after the Reds’ win over Brighton, Klopp was complimentary of Karius despite his recent shortcomings and believes the German can become a success during his time with the Black Eagles, he said: “I really think Loris is a fantastic goalkeeper at a very good age. A lot of people spoke to me about our improved defensive things, but as good as Alisson has been in the last three games, he was not here for the games before that, it was Loris in goal and he did a lot of good things. Besiktas have quite an experienced team so I think they have a good chance to win the league in Turkey, so that’s cool.”

Karius had become the undisputed number one during the backend of the previous campaign after his performances were much assured than Simon Mignolet. However, his joy could not last until the end of the campaign after he made a couple of major blunders during the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid which thereby generated the anger among the supporters.

Klopp thereafter suggested that Karius would continue to remain the club’s number one shot-stopper but a couple of nervous performances during pre-season meant that the 51-year-old was forced to pursue a replacement. Without Karius, Simon Mignolet is now expected to play the back-up duties to Alisson Becker but the Belgian may have a sense of disappointment, considering he was previously keen over a potential summer exit from Anfield.
